International relations, which is a branch of fact, political science, “international system” also including states primarily involved as main actors, international / regional or inter-governmental nature of the organizations, is the discipline that transmits communications and interactions to be studied as a whole between multinational companies and the international community . In the study of this interaction, political science, economics (international economics, international political economy), history (political history), law (constitutional law, administrative law, and especially international law), philosophy (political philosophy and ethics), sociology, psychology, geography, anthropology , etc. It is possible to benefit from many disciplines.
Since the ancient times, the struggle for human existence, border struggles between city states, the concept of alliance against the enemy, and the desire to communicate with other societies have continued since ancient times. When the concept of international relations, which we initially called with such limited issues, came to the middle ages, the only unit idea or imperial framework formed in the early ages left its place to the policies created by adapting it to religious doctrines in this period. In addition to social and cultural life, we see that the state administration is based on sacred things. The divergences between Christianity and the religion of Islam did not prevent their unification in common foreign policy at some points. In this context, international relations established in the middle ages serve as a bridge between the modern age and the first age.
Foundations of the modern world, XVI. and XVII. centuries, the religious wars in Europe and the Peace of Westphalia (1648) signed at the end of these wars. This treaty, which provides the transition from the national state to the nation state, is accepted as the basis of the construction of nation states, in other words the western centered world. People who shared common values, connected to each other with a sense of belonging, and became a private society with the idea of unity and solidarity formed the nation state, that is, people living in the same country now formed the concept of “nation”.
The Peace of Westphalia is accepted as the first step towards international relations in terms of the birth of the concept of nation state. However, it was with the Cold War era that the concept of international relations began to form fully. In this period, the events such as the blocking of the states, the colonies becoming an independent nation-states, trying to fix the distorted economies with the 2nd world war, and the international organizations starting to play an active role in order for the destruction caused by the war never to happen again, took the form of international relations in today’s world.
Introduction of international relations to the literature
International relations as a science was born in Aberystwyth, Wales in 1919 and developed in Britain in its early years. In this period, the school that dominates discipline is idealism. The post-war center of gravity has shifted to the USA, and the dominant paradigm has been realism. The discipline affected by the behavioral revolution in the 1960s was later divided into many sub branches.
